Kiyomizu Temple
Kiyomizu-dera temple was founded in 778 and was dedicated to Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva of compassion.).
Its construction was proposed by shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro.
Many temple buildings burned down in 1629.
At the order of the third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu, the temple was re-built in 1631.
The temple was completed in 1633.
The elevated terrace or platform of the temple is called “Butai” which means “Stage” in Japanese.
From the “stage” of the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, you can see a beautiful panoramic viewof the whole city of Kyoto.
There are also important cultural properties like Niohmon, Umatodome, Syuro(the bell tower), Saimon(The west Gate), Sanju-to, keido, Tamura-do, Asakura-do, Syaka-do, Amida-do, and Oku-no-do.
The temple was proclaimed as the world heritagein 1994 by the Unesco.
the Gion a River
Gion was born as a town in front of The Shrine of Gion.
There were houses of a picture-story show and a Japanese puppet show （in which the story is narrated and sung to a samisen accompaniment） in Edo era.
Then, the area was developed as a town of teahouse and grew with public entertainment and the performing arts from the end of Edo era to the beginning of Meiji era.
You will see the traditional view of stores and houses on a stone-paved street with the beautiful Shira-river and a row of trees of cherry blossoms.
